Be clever, play cunning, and pickup craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s knights wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French moved down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
