Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps formed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and found refuge in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns.
