The history of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game referred to as Hazard, which dates back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Eightteen Thirteen. Hazard is believed to be a offshoot of Azzahr, which means ‘the die’ a game played by Arabs.

The game developed as it spread out from the Arab regions to France and then England. By the early 1700s, formal rules for Hazard had been established. France adopted the British variation of Hazard and is thought to have been imported to the new world by early French colonists. In the mid-1700s, when the English beat the French in British North America, the French colonizers relocated to Louisiana. Dice were enjoyed on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a modernized ‘US’ style of Craps was developed. The game moved west and is a favoured game that is played all over the U.S. and all over the world.

The name ‘Craps’ is considered to be a French articulation of the word crabs, which refers to a pair of ‘1s’. There are 2 general types of Craps that are enjoyed-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, correctly called because it’s competed in on the streets is where a tosser establishes a point and then tries to acquire that point. The wagering is made either with or opposed to the shooter and another player has to cover the bet for the game of craps to go on.

In casino Craps, which is the normal game, wagered on in betting houses, the betting house funds the game. The participants bet with the house-the casino covers all of the bets of all of the players. Craps was a very well-liked casino game but in the last 20 years had divided itself and different games, like poker and twenty-one became more popular. However, Craps is experiencing a surge in recognition once again in online betting houses and in land based casinos.
