Be cunning, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Current craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he established the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
