Be clever, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps come about from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and discovered safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is acquired from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Most acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he established the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
