Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
