Be clever, play cunning, and pickup craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French relocated south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he developed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
