Be brilliant, play clever, and discover how to play craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps come about from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French headed down south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he established the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
