Be brilliant, play smart, and master craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was derived from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he established the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
