Be smart, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was acquired from the name of the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he established the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
