Be cunning, play brilliant, and master craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s knights wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French headed down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
