Learn to Wager on Craps – Hints and Strategies: Chips or Cheques?

Casino workers normally reference chips as "cheques," being of French background. In reality, there’s a distinction amidst a chip and a cheque. A cheque is a chip with a amount written on it and is always worth the amount of the printed number. Chips, however, do not have denominations imprinted on them and any colour can be worth any amount as determined by the house. e.g., in a poker tournament, the dealer may state that white chips as one dollar and blue chips as ten dollars; at the same time, in a game of roulette, the croupier may state that white chips as $0.25 and blue chips as $2. A different instance, the inexpensive red, white, and blue plastic chips you can get at Target for your Friday-night poker get together are referred to as "chips" seeing as they do not have denominations imprinted on them.

When you plop your $$$$$ down on the table and hear the croupier announce, "Cheque change only," she’s simply informing the boxman that a new individual wishes to exchange money for chips (cheques), and that the money on the craps table isn’t in play. Cash plays in a majority of casinos, so if you lay a five dollar bill on the Pass Line just before the tosser tosses the dice and the dealer does not change your $$$$$ for chips, your cash is "live" and "in play." When the croupier announces, "Cheque change only," the boxman knows that your $$$$$ isn’t part of the action.

In reality, in live craps games, we gamble with cheques, not chips. Every now and then, a gambler will approach the table, drop a $100 cheque, and say to the dealer, "Cheque change." It is amusing to act like a beginner and ask the dealer, "Hey, I am new to Craps, what’s a cheque?" Frequently, their crazy answers will amuse you.
